OUR STORY IN 4 Q&A's
Welcome!
-
We are a US-based nonprofit organization that directly supports the original Osiligi Foundation in Tanzania, Africa. Derrick and Jaimee are the founders of the US nonprofit, and Michael is the founder and director of the Osiligi Foundation & Orphanage in Tanzania.
-
Derrick and Jaimee are also on the board of directors for the Tanzania organization and work closely with Michael and his wife Hedaya to ensure needs and goals are met.
-
The ultimate goal is for Michael and Hedaya to establish sustainable income sources in Tanzania to provide for the orphanage. You can see the "Projects" tab for more information on current projects and future goals.
-
The primary way we provide support at this time is by covering the cost of schooling for the kids in the orphanage. Individual student sponsorships all for the Osiligi children to receive a higher quality education that provides for great opportunities when they complete school.
What is Osiligi?
Osiligi translates from the native Maasai language as HOPE. Since the foundation started in 2011, Michael and Hedaya have sought to provide hope for each and every child that enters their home.
Who currently cares for the children?
The children's guardians - Michael and Hedaya (seen to the right) - have made it their life’s work to give their children the love and support they deserve growing up. They do their best to make sure that the children are provided for with clothing, food, education, toys, and most importantly, a family to care for and nurture them. Nannies are also employed for further child care support as the orphanage continues to grow.
Recently one of the children from Osiligi graduated with a degree in social work and has come back to be employed by the orphanage. Student sponsorship made this possible, and because of the exceptional care the children receive, it truly becomes their family and a home they desire to stay connected to.
How successful has Osiligi foundation been?
Since 2011, Michael and Hedaya have grown the foundation successfully and currently care for 28 children! These kids were adopted through the Tanzanian social welfare program for children in need of parental care. The Osiligi Foundation's mission is to provide every one of these 28 children an opportunity to pursue their dreams despite their circumstances.
Recently one of the Foundation's children, Stefano, was able to complete his medical education and is now a board-certified doctor in Seattle, Washington thanks to his sponsor’s investment in his future since he was young. Stefano was proof that Michael and Hedaya's care along with proper support could change a child’s life for the better and give them hope for something greater than they could have imagined.
What will donations be used for?
Your donation to our foundation would allow us to continue our mission in providing the children with osiligi - hope. We currently are focusing our support on the children's education. Your donations would allow us to grow as a foundation and provide the children with basic resources they should have growing up, while also helping Michael and Hedaya provide for their day-to-day needs such as food and clothing in addition to their education. We all at Osiligi would be greatly endeared with any form of support you may be able to provide! With your help, we can work together to make the children's dreams a reality.
